Chocolate & orange belong together, it’s just a fact.

This delicious chocolate orange protein loaf cake is rich and, although it pains us to say it, moist. Sweetened naturally with maple syrup and plenty of citrusy flavour from real oranges, it’s the perfect healthy bake to satisfy your chocolate cravings and the ideal treat to share over the Easter weekend.

Serves 8

Ingredients

For the glaze:
  • 1 orange (juiced)
  • Orange zest
  • 1 tbsp. cocoa powder
  • 3 tbsp. maple syrup
For the cake:
  • 3 eggs
  • 100ml maple syrup
  • 100g coconut oil (melted)
  • 200g plain flour
  • 1 scoop Impact Whey Protein
  • 1 tbsp. cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • Orange zest

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 170°C
  2. First, prepare the chocolate orange glaze by adding the orange juice, zest, cocoa powder and maple syrup to a pan over a medium heat. Mix well and bring to the boil to thicken, then remove from heat and set aside.
  3. Crack your eggs into a bowl and then add the maple syrup and melted coconut oil. Beat together until fully combined.
  4. Next add the plain flour, protein powder, cocoa powder, baking powder, and orange zest. Stir together until you have a smooth batter.
  5. Pour the batter into a loaf tin and bake for 35 minutes.
  6. Once cooked, remove from the oven and carefully prick the loaf cake all over with a tooth-pick. Then pour the chocolate orange glaze over the top of the cake and allow to cool for 10-15 minutes.
  7. Carefully remove from the loaf tin, top with orange slices, and then slice up to serve. Enjoy with a dollop of Greek yoghurt if you’re feeling indulgent.
