The Stoltman brothers have recently joined the Myprotein team and to celebrate, they’re sharing some of their favourite moves for building muscle and getting strong.Being World’s Strongest Man finalists in 2019, they certainly know what they’re talking about when it comes to strength training (just look at the size of those weights in the video!)

Here’s their three favourite moves for building strength and tips for getting the sets and reps just right for optimum muscle building.

Banded Deadlift

If you’re struggling without all those extra weight plates that are usually lying around the gym, then the Stoltman brothers have the answer. Resistance bands. Whether you’ve got a barbell or just a band, they’re a great way to add tension to your moves.

The brothers recommend 6-12 reps or 3-5 reps if you want to really build strength and “get beefy”.

Banded Overhead Press

A move you need to perfect if you want to be a strongman competitor, the brothers love this move for building those boulder shoulders as well as engaging the core. If you’re working without weights right now, then this resistance band move is a great alternative. The boys recommend getting some pretty tough resistance bands for this move (the higher the resistance, the tougher the move). Again, 3-5 reps with a high-resistance band to build strongman-level strength, or 6-12 reps to get those muscles pumping.

Sand Bag Lift

Anyone who’s watched World’s Strongest Man will know that the sand bag is an integral part of the competition. The brothers love this conditioning move for strengthening the hamstrings, glutes, and the lower back. Not got a sand bag? Pick up some bags of compost from your local shop, or fill up a rucksack to perform this move.

The brothers recommend around 10 reps of this lift on each side in quick succession to get that heart pumping — strongman’s not just about lifting heavy, you know!

Take home message

Just because you can’t get to the gym, doesn’t mean you can’t still build strength. Hopefully the Stoltman brothers have inspired you to get creative with what you’ve got to keep making gains. These three moves are perfect for improving strength and conditioning your body for serious strongman results.
